Manoj Bajpayee Revisits ‘Frustrating’ Period, When ‘Satya’ Was Stalled After Gulshan Kumar’s Death

Manoj Bajpayee, who has a career spanning more than three decades in the Hindi film industry, recently completed his 100th film in the Industry. The actor has given some iconic performances over the years. One of them was the 1998 film, Satya, where he played the unforgettable role of ‘Bhiku Mhatre.’ The role was the talk of the town. In a recent interview with Sushant Sinha for his YouTube channel, Manoj revealed some exciting details about the BTS activities of the film.

Manoj Bajpayee revealed that the shoot for Satya was delayed for a long time

Satya was supposed to be produced by T-series founder, Gulshan Kumar. However, his assassination in 1997 shook the industry and delayed the film. Several rumours were suggesting the alleged role of Mumbai Mafia in the assassination. Incidentally, the film’s storyline was also linked with them. As a result, the makers faced difficulty securing financial banking, which caused a frustrating delay in shooting. Recalling the incident, Manoj said:

“Gulshan Kumar was murdered five days after we began shooting. The film was halted because the producer got scared. Gulshan Kumar’s murder was a huge incident in the industry, and we were making a movie about the Mumbai mafia. The producer got so scared he shut it down. Our careers, which were just about to begin, were brought to an abrupt halt.”
